Favorite Teacher Scavenger Hunt and Giveaway

I am happy to be joinin' Erin from Miss Lifesaver and
Susan from Middle School OCD
for their "300" Celebration Scavenger Hunt and Giveaway.
So happy for them!

Most of you readin' this have been influenced by a special
teacher at some point in your life.
A teacher that went above and beyond.
A teacher that shared their love of learnin' with you.
Someone who probably made you want to be a teacher yourself.
My favorite teacher was my first grade teacher, Mrs. Gillette.

I remember Mrs. Gillette callin' all of the students to the carpet to read every day.
She would sit in her chair and read with such expression and love.
When she read aloud to us, it was my very favorite part of the day.
I wanted to read just like her.

Along with my parents, Mrs. Gillette helped foster a love of readin' in me
that has stuck with me ever since.
I LOVE TO READ!

The sayin' "It's a small world" is so very true.
I moved 600 miles away from my hometown about 8 years ago.
When I was talkin' to a colleague about where I had moved from, she
said..."You wouldn't by chance happen to know a Mrs. Gillette would you?
She's my next door neighbor."
I jumped up and down screamin' and yellin'...
"YES, SHE WAS MY FIRST GRADE TEACHER.
SHE WAS MY FAVORITE TEACHER!"
My colleague was so excited and went home and asked Mrs. Gillette
if she remembered me....and guess what?
She did....TWENTY FIVE YEARS later.
I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but definitely super cool!

We have the opportunity to be the Mrs. Gillettes of the world.
We have the opportunity to inspire every child that walks through our door.
Thank you Mrs. Gillette for inspirin' me and teachin' me.

  1. I love that you remember reading on the carpet. It just goes to show how important it is to make reading special and to read to our students. And I am sure she remembered you because you were wonderful:). Thanks for joining in and being part of the celebration!

  2. I had a Mrs. Gillette, except her name was Mrs. Barnette! (it must be the "ette"). Of course, she remembered you! You're unforgettable! Alison, you are now your students Mrs. Gillette! You inspire everyone! xoxo

  3. I love that you remember your 1st grade teacher! I can barely remember my 12th grade teachers, I am sure there were others that were wonderful to me...and might even remember be 25 years later...but I can't seem to recall any of those moments. It's really not surprising I can barely remember what I did yesterday...old age problems?

  4. Your post reminded me very vividly of the read alouds from one of my teachers in 8th grade. I think of her every year when I teach Tell Tale Heart because I can still hear her voice in my head as she dramatized it for us. I firmly believe that no one is ever too old for a read aloud. That's what Audible is for, right?!

Also? I LOVE those small world moments. And I know how much I appreciate hearing positive remarks from former students, so I can only imagine how nice that is to hear 25 years later! Isn't it awesome to think YOU will be that person for many of your students?!

Thanks so much for celebrating with us! xoxo

  6. Hands-down my 6th grade teacher. I remember all sorts of fun activities that made learning fun!

I was looking for your email address, but couldn't find it. Do you mind contacting me? I have some tech questions about the PPT to PDF conversion, and am wondering if you can help me. When I print out the PDF some of the graphics are "jumbled" and overlapping. Can you email me? bbumblebee@msn.com Thanks!
