Tried it Tuesday...SUP & not bein' a robot...

I'm just gonna be completely honest...I'm tired y'all.  Today was my "official" day back.  We had our first day of preschool plannin' and it was stormin' the whole time.  I hear rain and I automatically think zzz's in my head and get the urge to take a nap.  Now that I'm home, I know if I lay down that I'll never be able to sleep tonight.  Instead, I'm linkin' up with Holly from Fourth Grade Flipper for Tried it Tuesday.  Holly always gives the best tutorials and I really look forward to Tuesdays to learn neat-o stuff from not just her, but all of the Tuesday linker-uppers!

So, this weekend I tried S.U.P.(Stand Up Paddle boardin')  One word: FUN!  Have you ever tried it?  I've got a great friend, Randy, that helped me on my adventure of paddle boardin' at St. Andrews State Park-Shell Island Shuttle.  He was very patient and gave me all the tips I needed before gettin' started.  I must say that I watched entirely too much Shark Week last week and was convinced that Jaws Jr. was goin' to be nippin' at my toes when I got in the water. Didn't happen...phew!  Randy suggested that I shuffle my feet to keep away from stingrays.  You don't have to tell me twice!  I started out on the board, on my knees, to get out of the shallow water and to get my balance.  I bravely got to my feet after a few minutes and immediately fell off. SPLASH! I wasn't goin' to give up that easily though.  I tried again and guess what...I stayed on that board(Jerm of course didn't fall off once...whatever).  The trick is to not stand on it like you are surfin'.  That doesn't help your balance.  It's best to have your feet planted a few inches apart and to look straight ahead, not down!  My legs were wigglin' and the yellow flies were bitin' me, but I paddled and paddled and paddled. You don't even realize that you are usin' muscles that you didn't even know you had...until the next day.  It was an amazin' adventure and I can't wait to do it again.  If you're ever in the Panama City Beach area, you must definitely go out to St. Andrews State Park to try out the paddle boardin' or to take the shuttle to Shell Island.  Don't forget to tell Randy that I sent you!

Also, I've blogged about this before, but I remembered this as I was goin' through everyone's Monday Made It's yesterday and got held up on postin' comments because of the "captcha".  I found this on Ideas by Jivey(if you aren't followin' her, you should).  She has a section on her blog titled "Techy Tips" and let me tell you...this is GOOD stuff!  Jivey's blog has some really helpful tips; not just techy ones.  A major tip that jumped out at me when I first started bloggin' was for that super annoyin' captcha that shows up when you are leavin' comments on other peoples' blogs.  I bet some of you don't even know that it's on yours; I sure didn't know it was on mine.  Never fear, it is no longer here!!!  Click here to learn how to get rid of YOUR captcha too!

  1. I agree with you about leaving comments and having to type the little blurry word and number. Sometimes I have to put my glasses on and still am not sure what the letters are. When it tells me I'm wrong, I give up and growl a wee bit... I think it defaults on - but I checked when someone mentioned it on a blog. I think it's off now. :)

  2. I have never heard of S.U.P (I thought your post was saying like, "wassup!" haha! It sounds so fun though! I think it is great when I do something fun and use those muscles I never would have used:) Thank you as always for the shout out and for linking up (especially on your first official day back!). Wow!

    1. HAHAHA...that was so funny that you said that, Holly. I didn't even think about SUP soundin' like "wassup" when I was writin' my post title. My dad and I always say, "Sup" when we talk to one another on the phone.

  3. S.U.P. sounds like a whole lotta fun! I can promise you that I would be terrible at it, but probably highly entertaining!

    1. I thought for SURE that I would be awful, but I was not. I'm always up for giggles in any situation, so I too figured if nothin' else it would be highly entertainin'.

  5. Awww, I want to take a nap when I hear rain too. Wonder why that is...

Your paddle boarding experience sounds amazing! I've always wanted to try it, but here in Wisconsin, there is not a lot of water around. I don't know about those stingrays though. That would probably keep me on the shore. That....and the shark that would surely be following me. :)

    1. Do you have any lakes? Paddle boarding would probably be more enjoyable in calm waters.

  6. I can't stand Captcha. It is just annoying and I hate that it does it automatically. It reminds me of services fees--no real reason for them, except to make you made.

Very cool with the SUP. I saw a few people doing it when we were there on vacation...it looked fun, but I'm afriad I could get lost at sea if I tried it.

    1. I stayed in pretty shallow water, but I wasn't in the waves. That would have been disastrous. It's better in calm water. You should definitely try it!
